Another great UFC card has came and gone this time with some great storylines to talk about. There were not a ton of finishes, but a lot of tough battles throughout. Petr Yan obtained the Bantamweight Interim Championship and the ageless wonder Glover Teixeira finally became a champion. So much to go into for this great card.
To start things off, let’s talk Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev amazed people with his fourth straight dominant fight after he submitted Li Jingliang in the first round with ease. This was the highlight of the evening everyone was talking about. Chimaev picked up Jingliang and took him out in front of the boss, Dana White. Now that he has become a top 10 Welterweight, he has his eyes on the superstar Nate Diaz, but many speculate he will take on Gilbert Burns or Neil Magny. Magomed Ankalaev turned heads as well, as he dominated Volkan Oezdemir. Ankalaev is starting to look like a top 3 contender in the Light-Heavyweight division. I believe his next opponent could potentially be Aleksandar Rakic since Anthony Smith recently had to pullout of their fight.
Lerone Murphy took home the best finish after he perfectly timed a knee to a diving Makwan Amirkhani. The first round of the fight let Murphy adjust to what Amirkhani had to offer. The Co-main even was an amazing bout with Cory Sandhagen going toe-to-toe with Petr Yan, who is regarded as one of the best pound-for pound. Yan ended up using his unreal cardio to be able to control the end of the fight and take the win to set up a Championship rematch with Aljamain Sterling. This will settle the mishap last time when Yan illegally kneed Sterling while he he was down. Golver Teixeira finally put the cherry on top of his amazing career. He became the oldest UFC champion ever after submitting Jan Blachowicz in the second rough with a rear naked choke. Teixeira was in control the whole time. Jiri Prochazka looks to be next for him, as he was the replacement fighter for this championship in case a fighters had to pull out.
The fights were great, but these were like an appetizer for the card coming this weekend, UFC 268. The UFC is giving fans back to back monster cards that will help UFC get back up and going. The rematch of Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman, plus the second fight of Rose Namajunas and Weili Zhang headline the event. Not to mention Justin Gathje returns to fight Michael Chandler to start off the main card. Many crazy things to come.
